Their moving in progressed. Done with his own bags, Mitch helped Max unpack. Max was bitterly regretting bringing the trunk from boarding school days, emblazoned with his initials and house emblem. He thought everyone at college would have one, but he was so obviously wrong. Though Mitch had few clothes, they were all interesting - decorated in some way, with fancy coloured stitching, buttons or graffiti. Max was only too aware of the fashion disasters lurking in the depths of his trunk. After a while, he stopped Mitch from going any further. "That's OK", he grinned, while thinking it was not okay at all. "I've got enough clothes out now for a couple of weeks."

Mitch had been dancing to Erasure on his crappy tape Walkman. The music made organising his life less onerous. He didn't expect Max to burst in on him - he thought there'd be some warning, a knock at least. He must have been so into the music he didn't hear. Embarrassed to be caught dancing by his new roommate, he was even more embarrassed by the blush that was spreading all over his cheeks. Arrested in his tracks, he stared at Max, and his mouth dropped open.

Mitch Indie believed strongly in the power of fate. He knew full well that he was only able to attend the prestigious Academie thanks to a bursary that paid his fees and a small stipend. Unlike most of his peers, Mitch was poor, dirt poor. While the other students had rich families for support, Mitch didn't even have parents, let alone a family.

He wasn't exactly an orphan. Probably. His parents were most likely still around somewhere. But it wasn't like he was in contact with them. Actually, he was pretty sure he'd never even met one of them.

It was a bright afternoon in early September. The sunlight was strong, warm enough to echo the summer just gone, but a breeze rustled through the leaves that were just starting to turn yellow. It was the first day of the Autumn Term at Academie le Tour. The tree-lined campus was packed full of buses, bringing excited students back to their friends after the long vacation. Cars were everywhere, overflowing the car parks and abandoned on roads; driven by anxious parents, taking their young people to college for the first time.

The first three chapters of the Grunt family saga finally come to livejournal. Chapters 1 & 2 are unchanged from the version posted on the Sims 2 Exchange, Chapter 3 is in a new "director's cut", which is longer and slightly more racy than the Exchange version.

I'm working on Chapter 4 at the moment - somewhat annoyingly, I'm enough of a perfectionist that now I know how to take decent photographs in-game, I'm feeling the need to throw away all my old photos from unfinished stories and re-shoot them. I'm trying to resist the urge to do this with the Grunt saga, as the original idea was to write this as the antithesis of the Friends and SimFreezepop stories, where shots get set up in tortuous detail; and simply play the game and take photos as I go. So far, I've thrown away the pictures of Tank & girl friends as I hated the house they lived in, but I half-want to reshoot all the Ripp & friends pictures as well because of things like Visible Plumbbob Syndrome. I hope I'll manage not to, or you'll be waiting even longer for the "real" update :).
